Chaotic Comforts: IOT Device Reviews for Privacy and Security
How I will test and review the latest gadgets and devices for your home
Hey everyone! It’s 2024 and I am officially trying to get back into blogging! If you haven’t read it yet, I just posted an in-depth analysis I conducted last year on Alexa, aiming to determine if it listens and reports back to Amazon when the wake word is not used.
I am excited to announce that I am launching a new blog series called Chaotic Comforts, where I will be testing and reviewing various smart home products and giving you my honest opinion on their privacy, security, and overall performance. I have always been fascinated by how technology can improve our lives, but I also want to be aware of the potential risks and drawbacks of using these devices. That’s why I decided to start this series, where I will share my findings and insights with you, and hopefully help you make informed decisions about your own smart home purchases.
In each Chaotic Comforts post, I will be covering a different smart home product, ranging from door locks and cameras to smart appliances and TVs, to voice assistants and smart speakers. I will be evaluating them based on the following criteria:
- Privacy: How well does the product protect your personal data and identity? Does it collect any information that you are not aware of or consent to? Does it have any security features or settings that you can customize?
- Security: How vulnerable is the product to hacking or unauthorized access? Does it have any encryption or authentication methods? Does it integrate well with other devices or networks in your home?
- Performance: How well does the product function and deliver on its promises? Does it have any glitches or bugs? Does it have any unique or innovative features that set it apart from other products in the market?
I have already selected some of the products that I want to test and review, and I have listed them below. However, I also want to hear from you, my loyal readers, about what products you are interested in or curious about. So, please feel free to leave a comment or send me an email with your suggestions and questions, and I will try to include them in my future Tech Check posts. Here are the topics that I have planned so far:
- Net Neutrality / Case for Internet as a Utility
- GE Appliances
- Subzero Appliances
- MyQ Garage
- Roborock
- Josh AI
- U by Moen
- Lutron
- LG TVs
- Samsung TVs
I hope you are as excited as I am about this new blog series, and I look forward to hearing from you and sharing my Chaotic Comforts experiences with you. Stay tuned for the first Chaotic Comforts post, coming soon!
