Review of Example’s First US Concert [Pics Included]

April 8th, 2012

I don’t think I’ve ever felt more lucky than when I got random messages from Europeans telling me how much of a legend Example is and saying how lucky I am to be able to get his tickets for only $19 USD. Me and my friend ended up traveling to NYC for three days to see him perform in a small New York City venue called the Gramercy Theatre. It seats only about 700 people (most standing). To start-up artists I’m sure this is something of an awesome venue to perform in. However, for Example where his other venues can hold an upwards of 15,000 people I’m sure it was a bit of a paradigm shift. I don’t have much to say other than this was one of my most favorite artists to see in my entire life, which is actually saying something considering the lineup of artists I have seen (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park, Green Day, Chronic Future, The Beach Boys, Yellowcard etc). The show was not only very energetic from the crowd but also from Example and his band. I am definitely seeing him again when he returns to the US in the fall. Enjoy some photos I took (with my phone, sorry) of the concert. I also got a sweet poster which advertises it as being his debut in the USA (going to frame it because I’m a music nerd).

So many changes in lighting during the show.

I have more photos but since they were all with my phone the quality isn’t amazing. Either way, if you ever have a chance to see him live I would highly suggest it. The live band makes it such a mix of many genres and something that really isn’t done in US concerts. The only downside is that he’s so popular it’s next to impossible to get his autograph/meet him after shows.

2012: Year of the…. Everything

February 22nd, 2012

Wow, it’s been forever since I actually wrote anything here. So much has happened and so much to cover so lets just dive in.

Jaw Surgery Update
Well it has been about 14 months since I had my jaw surgically broken. The swelling went away halfway through the summer last year, I never made a post about it though because I was working in New York City at the time and then just kind of forgot. There are still a few issues with this whole thing though. For one, I get random pain in my jaw, kind of like a foot cramp but for my jaw — an annoyance more than anything. Secondly, the surgeon said I might never get my feeling back in the right side of my face/jaw area which kind of sucks. Shaving sucks because of this — feels like my face is asleep and its highly uncomfortable. On top of this, my brain apparently still doesn’t know that my jaw is smaller than it used to be so I constantly wake up with my bottom lip having teeth indents and cuts from biting in my sleep. Overall though, things are back to normal.

Arabic Popularity
One thing that I didn’t expect to happen is my Arabic keyboard apparently blew up in the popularity charts and the internet search results. The comments section is much larger than I ever would have anticipated along with the amount of emails I get from people (thanks for the support!). This in turn has caused people to actually find the rest of my nonsensical rantings on this site which makes moderating this place even more interesting. Downloads of the keyboard are already in the 4 figures now which is impressive in my mind!

Well, I now own 4 domains!,, and a fourth which will be revealed in the coming time (due to reasons that will be explained below). In terms of Step Zero, they finally got radio play following the unfortunate death of my dear friend Aric Fleury (who was in the band). Unexpected death, but I’d rather not dwell on the negatives, he would want me focusing on the positives such as radio play and… hollywood! Me along with my friend and other Step Zero band member Martin Harp have been in talks with some people from Hollywood, what all do they want? Not really sure at this point, we have another meeting on Thursday but hopefully it will help Step Zero get some recognition despite their studio album will be the last bit of music they make. It’s rather exciting though especially because I love just watching growth of events like this so I will have to post more on this as it comes out. and don’t really have much going on (besides this site’s burst in popularity and page rank).

My fourth website is a project/business venture I am starting with some of the most innovative and intelligent people I know. If all goes according to plan it could really change the future of the music and movie industry (which, I really hope it does). With MPAA and RIAA pursuing ridiculous legislation such as SOPA, ACTA and the new one that is under the guise of “anti-pornography” I really want to be a driving force in giving artists (Filmmakers, musicians and designers) more power and taking it away from large organizations like RIAA, MPAA and major labels. I have to thank a lot of my work with Step Zero for this, after putting up with WWE Music Group (sub-label of Warner Music) with Step Zero I just grew more and more despised with how artists are treated. Their refusal to adapt to technology and their refusal to change their business model has been begging for someone to come in to slap them in the face and ruin their abusive fun — I plan on being this change. More details on this later when I am able to actually discuss what is going on.

Despite all the fiascoes last semester, I was able to come through with some positives. I was on CNN Headline News last November talking about the ridiculousness of the media and their focus on irrelevant issues. I proceeded with job interviews all last semester and ended up with a total of eight offers (crazy I know!) which was a tough decision, but after much thought, I decided to let go of my top secret security clearance and go to private business. I have become so ambivalent towards government work this past year that I really don’t want anything to do with them anymore. So I accepted a really cool job with Capital One in their IT Security division.

I’m now into my final semester, scary stuff. Ready to leave though. I’m moving to Richmond to work for Capital One which should be tons of fun! I’ll be back to State College periodically though, I’m trying to get on their campus recruiting so I can visit old friends while recruiting for Capital One at the same time. As far as classes are concerned this semester — they aren’t too bad considering I basically only have classes on Tuesday and Thursday. Gives me time to work on everything else I have been doing at least!

Well, my brother is getting married! Should be pretty cool, just a small wedding thing, I could’ve called this about 5 years ago considering his fiance and him have been dating since I was in middle school.

Politics — Thought I was Done With You?
Seriously, every time I think I should just give up on caring about what this country does on its path to self-destruction it keeps pulling me back in with its absurd behavior. SOPA didn’t pass luckily (bit late to the party I know). What irritated me about the protests though is that people were actually mad at wikipedia for taking a stand. It seems like apathy truly does police the populous. It’s so frustrating to see the common American get mad when a free service says “Help us out and keep us from being shutdown”. Are people really that lazy? People got mad at me for voicing my concern over SOPA for the past 5 months on Facebook/Twitter etc. It’s ridiculous how having strong opinions and wanting to protect the freedoms that we have are so frowned upon these days. Why is it that the people who find issues with policies and procedures are the ones who go under scrutiny? I could go on for hours but I wont.

Other political news — presidential election this year, big deal. I only care about the election for one reason now-a-days and that is because of people like Rick Santorum. This man is a freaking lunatic — why is he even in the running!? The presidential election should be between more than 2 parties anyways, but if I could have my way I would make it between Obama and Ron Paul. Ron Paul will not get the GOP nomination though because he isn’t even a Republican. Which brings us back to the issue of why the heck do we still have a two party system? It doesn’t work.

I had a lot more on my mind when I started writing this, but as usual, when I start writing I forget what I had planned to write about. I randomly got sick yesterday, not sure what’s going on since I’ve been on and off sick since October, not sure what else to write about so I’ll probably just post again if I remember.

Johnny Five – From Hell With Love (Exclusive Download)

May 15th, 2011

About six years ago, I came across Johnny Five’s album “Summer”. The album was great, intelligent lyrics with great instrumentals. About a year later I found his album “Sweet Little Nothing” and loved it as well, at this point I wanted to find out what he is up to, so I go to his myspace and find he released an album “From Hell With Love”. However, everywhere I went, it was nowhere to be purchased. To cut this short, I ended up meeting Jonathan (his real name) through a series of connections, one including his own mother. The dude is exceptionally nice and I was fortunate enough that he mailed me a physical copy of this album. Years went by and Jonathan quit rapping, I started going to his youtube videos again and found people asking for this album, I figured it is something that needs to be done. Johnny is in a new project called Petite Columbo where his lyrics are just as masterful but it is definitely a huge variation in style in comparison to his former rapping self. One day I hope he returns to rapping as Johnny Five was probably one of the best and most underrated rappers this world has ever seen.

I ripped the songs straight from the CD with 320kbs quality, if you wan’t WAV or FLAC feel free to ask (I just didn’t want to crash my server with FLAC downloads). The download link is at the bottom of this post. Feel free to comment on it for questions/comments/concerns.

Music Review: Devlin – Bud Sweat and Beers Album

December 2nd, 2010

Well, I haven’t had much to write about, and since Devlin asked his fans to review his debut album… I figured I might as well! So here it goes:

Devlin is what they call a grime artist in the UK. Being an American citizen, with no knowledge of what exactly grime is, I like to call it intelligent rap. Anyways, here is an American review of an amazing UK artist:

So how about we start off with the track by track review.

1989 – 10/10* I absolutely love this track, if there is anything that could vividly explain a full life story of highs and lows, this is it.

Brainwashed -9/10* Originally I thought this was the greatest track I have heard in years, but then after the release of the album it got knocked down a few pegs by the other songs that are here. This is still an amazing song with a great female vocalist for the chorus.

Days & Nights – 10/10* Another astounding song, another song about all the hard work Devlin has had to do to get where he has gotten today. “Sleep when I’m dead” is a great phrase to pick out from this song.

London City – 8/10* This is probably my least favorite song on the album, lyrically. Musically, it’s great. However, being from the US, the lyrics are not very relate-able. I have heard from UK people that this song is very relate-able to them and that they absolutely love this song, so maybe it’s just a regional opinion.

Marching Through The Fog – 10/10* A great amp up song, although I feel the chorus slows down the pace a little bit, it is still a great piece. The music video is also very artistic and goes along great with the song.

Let It Go – 10/10* If there is one song on this album you want to buy, let it be this one. This song is my most favorite song of the entire album. I have heard some people compare it to Eminem’s Love the Way You Lie. I disagree, I like this song more, the theme is somewhat similar, but the actions and reactions described are just much more relate-able from my perspective.

Yesterday’s News – 10/10* Another amazing song, another one about his rise to recognition. Good chorus, solid lyrics. Very good.

Community Outcast – 9/10* Lyrically, best song on the album. Musically, it’s a tad off for my taste, but still a great bit! I love just reading the lyrics to this song though, feels like such strong poetry.

Runaway – 10/10* Second favorite on the album. Great lyrics, great beat and great emotion all put into this song. Another amazing female vocalist as well.

Our Father – 9/10* Great song, very intellectual and very interesting selection of instruments used to create the beat.

Finally – 8/10* The only song on this album that features other MC’s (Ghetts and Dogzilla). Pretty good song, would have been a 9 if it wasn’t for Dogzilla’s use of autotune, which is just a pet peeve of mine. Otherwise, it’s a great song about finding things to really love in life.

Dreamer – 10/10* I feel this song is highly underrated. It’s probably the hardest song to find on YouTube, yet this is probably my third favorite song on the album. The lyrics are just very easy to relate to from my perspective and they are very thoughtful as well. They’re deep and optimistic. Another great female vocalist too.

World Still Turns -10/10* Another excellent song about his rise, each one of these songs has a different perspective and a different aspect of what it is like to rise from an unknown artist to someone big. Great song, great guest vocalist, although they seem to be unnamed in the credits.

End of Days – 8/10* It’s an interesting song, it’s very aggressive which is a great fit for him, however the lyrics are a bit confusing and seem to lack depth. Otherwise it’s a great song.

To sum it up, I paid $35 to have this album bought and shipped over to the US. Was it worth the money? Every cent! The album as a whole is a 10/10. These songs are worlds ahead of any American rapper/grime artist whatever you want to call them. I call him a poet in a beat. His lyrics are deep with amazing beats and great guest vocalists. They are songs you want to listen to over and over again, not just because of how good they sound, but because it leaves your brain grasping for more insight into the thoughts of Devlin and the world that he has seen. It’s truly an experience and it makes you wish more artists would follow suit. I am waiting in anticipation for anything more that he puts out.

Please comment to tell me what you think/agree/disagree!

You can find more of devlin on iTunes (if you live in the UK), and at!

I bought the album from so if you are American, I would recommend trying to get it there.

First Real Post

November 22nd, 2010

Not really sure what to write here, I kind of added this just because it seems to be the cool new thing to do for us kids these days. I know when my jaw surgery starts in December I will be covering that since I was rather disappointed in the lack of information available to people looking for the effects and process of the jaw surgery. As well as if I end up traveling to the Middle East (Jordan) next year, I might be writing about that. But besides that, the posts will probably just be random rants on random topics. So if you stumble upon this, please let me know what you think!

I guess what I will start off this blog with a post about thought, mainly in regards to music. I guess the main thing that bothers me about most mainstream music now is the fact that the lyrics are no longer the focus of the content. I guess, one could argue that they never really have. Considering songs in the 1970’s and 1980s mainly deal with drug use or this Hollywood-esque style of love.

I just find it so odd that artists even bother putting in lyrics now, when the majority of people who become famous, have the most run-of-the-mill and dry lyrics. Lady Gaga, Kesha, Kanye, Lil Wayne, Taylor Swift are all applicable to this statement. Lady Gaga has barely any type of coherent thought in her lyrics; Lil Wayne’s songs are comprised entirely of 16 bar punch-lines. Of course, I must give credit to main-stream artists who do put actual thought into their lyrics; Eminem and Radiohead come to mind. It isn’t even really about a taste of music either. I don’t like Radiohead’s music, the tunes aren’t for me but the lyrics are intelligible.

Perhaps it just has to do with people wanting to just dance to music and not actually be provoked about anything. Or perhaps it’s because people don’t usually like to think about subjects in general. They just go through the day doing the same thing all day long and come home and watch mindless Jersey Shore. That isn’t really a stab at anyone either, it’s just a noticeable trait I have observed. I have probably two people I know that actually enjoy thinking about issues and aspects of life. To me, thinking and imagination is more beautiful than a nice beat and makes life so much more than this monotonous daily cycle. Of course this is just my perspective, and there is no reason to attribute negative connotations to people of different opinions on a very subjective matter.

Maybe I am just curious if there are more people out there who love to just contemplate life. Are there a lot of people out there who stay up at 2:00am thinking about the multiple ways to solve a complex problem? Or possibly just thinking about the way a computer system operates or how you can alter something about it to make it better?

People seem to love sleep, I don’t really like it. Dreaming in sleep is nowhere near the same as dreaming while you’re awake. The dreams during your sleep tend to make no sense and don’t really serve a purpose. While dreaming while awake, for me it’s usually the time most people are sleeping, is full of purpose and so many possibilities! It could change your future, someone else’s future or even the world’s future. It is what makes innovative ideas; it is what causes alternative solutions to a problem that nobody really thought about. My blog/website doesn’t get more than 14 views a day so I doubt anyone will respond to this, but I am curious, if you are out there… what are your thoughts?
